Welcome to Burton
Burton Fire District was created by state legislation in 1973 as a special purpose district. On February 15th, 2023 we proudly celebrated 50 years of service to the citizens of our area. The Burton Fire District serves the unincorporated areas of Port Royal Island in Beaufort County. Our district borders the Marine Corps Air Station, Parris Island Marine Corps Recruit Depot, the City of Beaufort and the Town of Port Royal. Our fire department is governed by a five member board of Commissioners appointed by County Council.
DUTY - HONOR - PRIDE
The Burton Fire District exists to provide the highest level of service and safety to our citizens and visitors. We accomplish this through prevention and mitigation of fires, accidents and medical emergencies. As well as a heavy concentration on public education and fire safety inspections.
Burton firefighters work a 48/96 shift schedule which was tested and implemented in 2006. We operate out of five fire houses strategically located throughout our district in accordance with ISO and NFPA standards & regulations. Our 2023 ISO inspection granted us a continuation of our 2/2y class rating. All of our firefighters and officers are certified to the highest NFPA standards through International Fire Services Accreditation Congress/Pro-board certifications. The fire district is licensed through the State of South Carolina to deliver emergency medical services and is supervised by a local medical physician. Our engine companies deliver Advanced Life Support services and our personnel are credentialed through National Registry and the State of South Carolina. |
